The more out-of-control our lives feel, the more we focus on things like the "perfectly clear" dust canister on a vacuum.
It’s a distraction from the bigger questions: Are we happy? Are we productive? Or are we just really good at moving dirt from the floor into a plastic bin?
I submit maybe we like vacuuming because it’s a problem we can actually solve.
Unlike "fixing the social system" or "ending government fraud," you can actually finish a rug.
The trouble is it's a fake sense of accomplishment that keeps us from realizing the rest of the house is still on fire.
